Mikey van Mourik is a Senior Hydrogeologist at TownRock Energy with over eight years of experience spanning the consultancy, charity and public sectors. His career began in the Australian mining industry and expanded to rural water supply initiatives in Madagascar before returning to the UK. Mikey often applies a hands-on approach to complex hydrogeological challenges, having supervised major drilling projects across three continents.
Since starting at TownRock Energy, one of Mikey’s main focuses is on transforming abandoned flooded coal mines into mine water geothermal schemes. He helps deliver the entire project lifecycle, from subsurface modelling and feasibility studies to borehole drilling, hydraulic testing and regulatory compliance. He strongly believes that there is large potential for legacy mining infrastructure to be repurposed for sustainable heat generation. Mikey is eager to demonstrate how these historic assets can become key components of our renewable future through innovative system design and subsurface understanding
