On his ‘corporate’ retirement in 2018, Chris Hinde founded Pick & Pen, a consultancy that writes about trends in the international mining industry and on providing training seminars. Before retiring, Chris was a Director at S&P Global Market Intelligence, where he led a team of 20 mining analysts in the preparation of reports on market trends.

Chris is a qualified mining engineer (with a BSc and PhD) and has extensive mining experience, including underground work with Anglo American in South Africa, consultancy with both SRK in Johannesburg and Golder Associates in the UK, and stockbroking with Schroder Securities. For many years, Chris was Editorial Director of Mining Journal Ltd, and co-founded the Mines & Money series of conferences.

In addition to South Africa, his mining experience includes work in Botswana, Malaysia and Turkey.
