Born in Redruth, Perran is one of seven chilfen born to his GP father and nurse mother. He had a 30 year career in business before joining Parliament, working for car manufacturers and an electric vehicle charging company. He is the MP for the furthest southerly Labour constituency in the UK, which also includes Perranporth, St Agnes, Porthtowan, Portreath, Pool, Stithians, Constantine and Mawnan Smith.He is one of four Cornish Labour MPs.
