Karen Hudson-Edwards is Professor in Sustainable Mining at the Camborne School of Mines and Environment and Sustainability Institute, University of Exeter. Karen has over 30 years’ experience working industry and academia. Her research interests lie in the fields of mine waste environmental impacts, remediation and valorisation, sustainable mining, mining and circular economy, critical raw materials and bioleaching. She was named one of Women in Mining’s 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining for 2022.

Since joining CSM in 2017 Karen has been PI and Co-I on several large research projects funded by the EC, EPSRC, NERC and STFC. These include Legacy Waste in the Coastal Zone, Lithium for Future Technology, Near-zero-waste recycling of low-grade sulfidic mining waste for critical-metal, mineral and construction raw-material production in a circular economy, Philippine mining at the national to catchment scale from legacy impacts to sustainable futures and the Met4Tech Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Centre for Technology Metals.
